Last week my wife and I made the best investment we have ever made in a home.
I have owned several homes over the years and have remodeled and upgraded them all. The one thing I haven’t done, until now, is upgrade the windows.
So, last Thursday the new windows were installed and let me tell you, the benefits were immediately noticed! We live on a very busy street, with traffic noise all day long. The noise was reduced greatly, I would say probably by 75%! Also noticed was the reduction of heat/solar gain. Our old single pane, metal frame windows were very hot to the touch, whereas the new windows are only slightly warm!
I am excited to track our energy savings on these over the next year.
In the summer, a typical home gets most of its heat gain from the windows, so this can be the best way to reduce the amount of heat gain in your home, especially if you have older, inefficient windows. Remember too, that good window coverings are just as important to help keep the heat out and the cool in!
Since windows are a pretty big investment, I suggest starting a window savings program and include it in your budget. That way you don’t have to come up with the $5,000 to $10,000 that it will cost all at once.
May your home be comfortable and efficient!
