Ways to save money. Clean AC coils.

It’s a hot, 100 degree, Saturday afternoon. You step into your nice cool home only to be slapped in the face with hot air! It’s supposed to be cool in here and yet it’s just as hot as outside! Just great, the Air Conditioner is broke. You call an HVAC company to come out. The technician who finally gets there finds that your condensing coils (on your air conditioner sitting outside) are clogged with cottonwood seed and dirt. He sprays coil cleaner on the AC unit, then hoses it off. The unit fires back up and your cooling again…$350.00 later…
There are a couple of actions that you can take to help avoid a service call like this.

First, regular preventive maintenance by your favorite HVAC company is a must. The cost of a maintenance visit is much less than a “no cool” service charge. During one of these visits, expect the technician to not only clean your Air Conditioners’ coils, but to verify the unit has the proper refrigerant charge and to test all the electrical connections and other components.

The next thing you can do is hose off your AC unit a few times during the cooling season. You want to be sure that power is off to the HVAC system before doing this. It’s best to ask your HVAC service technician how to do this properly.

This all works together to extend the life of your system and help keep cooling costs as low as possible.
